Care of the Virginia Opossum

If you don't have a Vet that will see a possum, you should at least have as many medications on hand that you can get your hands on to use in the event that they are needed. The KEY here is "IF THEY ARE NEEDED".  You should not just indiscriminately use antibiotics (for example) without having a good idea of what it is you are treating. Not all antibiotics are effective against all bacteria's. Treating them improperly, can lead to antibiotic-resistant strains of infections that can do more harm than good. DO NOT wait until your possum is sick, before stock piling medications. It can take a week or longer to order these online. At the very least you should have Amoxicillin and oral Nystatin on hand at all times. That being said, here are some links to some of the medications that can be used without a prescription:
